In lieu of a review of The Force Awakens, which I don’t intend to do until I’ve seen the film twice, I am continuing to re-evaluate some of the older films. A more in-depth, all-encompassing re-evaluation/review of The Phantom Menace is something I’ve been working on for a few weeks now and will appear in full shortly.
But recently, during a standard, heated argument about the Star Wars prequels, someone challenged me to “name ten things” that were good about The Phantom Menace.

Thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign, the documentary film that Adam Nimoy has been trying to make about his late father is going to be completed.
The project, which was started with the late Leonard Nimoy’s involvement, has seen 9,439 backers pledge $662,640 to help bring it to life.

The devastating war in Syria has now entered its fifth year.
The human tragedy of Syria, which until five years ago was a stable, multi-cultural society with a rich cultural and historic heritage, is on a scale that news organisations and media coverage is barely able to cope with or express. An entire culture has been gutted and torn to pieces for four years and has been subject to unimaginable levels of ultra-violence and brutality in many instances.

Alright, so I know the problem with a list like this is that it’s either too predictable or it’s subjective to the point of alienating.

First of all, Han should always have shot first! But while fan debate about The Original Trilogy will probably go on until the end of time, my position remains that some of the alterations that have been made to the Star Wars films over the years have been effective and have added to the overall quality of the films.

Riddle me this: what is 75 years of age but never gets old? In 1939, the year the Second World War officially began, artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger created a fictional comic-book character that would evolve and endure for far longer than either of them could’ve possibly imagined.
First appearing in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939, that character would become one of the most iconic fictional characters in popular culture for seven and a half decades (and counting). Not bad going for a caped crime fighter who looked a bit silly in the first instance. These are 12 Things (Among Many) To Be Grateful to the Dark Knight For

Brazil's Neymar celebrates a goal during the 2014 World Cup opening match between Brazil and Croatia at the Corinthians arena in Sao Paulo
So it’s all over. And just like in Italia 90, it came down to Germany and Argentina in the final. And just like in Italia 90, Germany prevailed by a single goal. And just like back then, Argentina’s central magician was unable to unlock the German defense and turn the tide; in 1990 it was Diego Maradona, in 2014 Lionel Messi.
But what a thoroughly enjoyable World Cup tournament it’s been. While the romantic aura still surrounds Italia 90 for me personally, and I also still have a soft-spot for the 2006 World Cup, Brazil 2014 exceeded expectations and delivered a dramatic, event-filled, exciting tournament.
